<![CDATA[EMs Dane Haven - Blog]]>Fri, 24 May 2013 15:58:16 -0800Weebly<![CDATA[Finding the best Stud for Lily]]>Sun, 14 Apr 2013 18:11:57 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/04/finding-the-best-stud-for-lily.htmlI have started searching for a mate for Lily. I have contacted several wonderful breeders in Germany and I really like a couple of them, but, as with any breeder, they do not have any puppies right now. I will be watching the breeders sites and will be in contact with them. It is exciting and frustrating all at the same time. I am sure many people feel the same about having to wait for a litter to be born. This is a good thing though, it would not be healthy for the dogs to be bred every heat cycle. Speaking of heat cycles, I will start watching Isis closely in the next month for sign of heat. She will be on a leash attached to me with Ozzy maybe going to visit my sister. It is much easier on all the dogs to not be around the opposite sex during the heat cycles. I will be skipping this heat cycle and if all the dogs are still in good health will be breeding them again for a litter in the spring of 2014. I am hoping to get a female out of this litter to keep and add to my breeding program. The last litter was amazing but I am hoping for a female Harlequin in the next litter for myself.
I have received some photos and updates on the puppies from the last litter. They are all doing so well and I LOVE getting the pics. I put so much time and energy into the whole litter that it is extremely rewarding to see them with all the new families.

<![CDATA[Macy]]>Fri, 12 Apr 2013 20:37:34 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/04/macy.htmlSo all the puppies are gone now except Macy, the little black girl. She still hasn't found her perfect home and so we named her. She has been so much fun to play with. We have a rope toy with tennis balls on it and she loves it. She will chase it, throw it in the air, and play tug o war with it. We have started housebreaking her and she is doing great. I am hoping she will find a home but if not I have no problem with keeping this cute little girl.

<![CDATA[Saying Good By]]>Sun, 24 Mar 2013 19:24:27 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/03/saying-good-by.html5 of the puppies have gone on to new homes already. It is a bittersweet weekend for me. I am happy to see the smiles on the new families faces but sad to see the little faces go one by one. I will miss them all. I am also happy that I will not be so busy now and can once again can find time in my schedule to ride my horse and just relax. Spring is upon us and so now I will be doing my spring cleaning and will soon be cleaning up the yard after the snow melts. I look forward to seeing updates on the puppies and hopefully some pics of them as they grow. 2 of the puppies have gone to homes in my area and I am excited to watch them grow. They have both gone to a couple friends of mine and so I will get to visit them and I am very happy about this. The kids are not very happy to see the puppies go and keep asking me where their favorite puppy has gone. Only 2 left for pick up now and one left to find a home for. Admiral is still with us and he is still such a sweet boy. We have discovered he does not like cats and so we will be looking for a home with no cats for him. I am hoping to get him neutered soon so his new family, when we find them, will not have to worry about it. If anyone is looking for a loving dog that is already house broke and has good manners already he will be the perfect fit. He enjoys it outside so his new family could have an outside dog if they chose. He will come inside but will ask to go out very soon after he comes in and would rather just stay out. He is about 80 lbs or so and will be getting a lot bigger. He has a very big bark and is a great watch dog letting us know when anything is not as it should be. He will bark when someone comes up the driveway but will great them with a happy tail and a smile. If anyone is interested in this sweet boy please let me know. I am asking a small amount of money now for him but after he is neutered his price will go up.

<![CDATA[Immunizations]]>Mon, 18 Mar 2013 16:23:23 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/03/immunizations.htmlTomorrow I will be taking the fawn and the black puppies to the vet for a check up and first set of shots. The next day the harlequins and the merle will be going in. They are currently only on solid foods and are doing great. I have extended the pen they stay in so it is 3 times bigger and they are having a little trouble staying on the puppy pads with potty time. I think it will get better as they get used to the bigger area. Before I changed it they were all using the puppy pads very well. They turned 6 weeks old today. Hard to believe they will be going to new homes in a couple weeks. It will be boring around here without the little trouble makers lol. They are always escaping the pen if I am not around to play with them and they will start looking for me and making messes on the way. Only the black female is still available. She is shy with new people but once she gets to know you she wants to cuddle and play. She is so sweet :) She is also one of the biggest in the litter. I am going to try and get pics up today of the puppies.

<![CDATA[5 Weeks old!!]]>Sun, 10 Mar 2013 20:30:17 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/03/5-weeks-old.htmlWOW!! So the puppies will already be 5 weeks old tomorrow! Time has flown by and they are getting so big :) They are eating solid food and only nursing once a day and once a night now. They are all playing and I bought some tennis balls, little ones, for them to play with. They are escaping the whelping box almost as fast as I can put them back in :) They follow me around while I am cleaning and doing laundry. I am going to be a bit sad when they leave for new homes but I am happy that I have made their new families happy. They will be getting their first set of immunizations in about a week and they have been wormed twice now.

Lily is getting big too and is always bugging Isis and Ozzy. She loves to run full speed at Ozzy while he is sleeping and jump on his face. He will lift his head and look at me annoyed that I am allowing her to disturb his nap. She is playing fetch too now and loves it. She will grab the ball and spin around to bring it back so fast sometimes she will trip herself lol.

I will try to get updated pics of the puppies in the next few days for everyone.

<![CDATA[Food for Puppies]]>Sat, 09 Mar 2013 16:15:49 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/03/food-for-puppies.htmlWe are feeding our puppies Hills Science Diet Large Breed dog food. Great Dane puppies should not eat puppy food because it can cause them to grow to fast and can cause the legs to grow crooked. I will be sending all the puppies home with some food from here so you can safely switch brands if you choose.

<![CDATA[4 Weeks Old]]>Sun, 03 Mar 2013 20:24:51 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/03/4-weeks-old.htmlSo the puppies are 4 weeks old tomorrow. They are eating solid food a few times a day. I mix the food in with water and milk replacer, put it in the blender until it is pureed and feed it to them like this. They love it. They have been wormed once so far. I have been so busy with life and puppies that I haven't had time to update anything. It has slowed down a bit around here so I will try to get new pics up as soon as I can. Thanks for being patient lol

<![CDATA[February 20th, 2013]]>Thu, 21 Feb 2013 03:15:12 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/02/february-20th-2013.htmlThe puppies are 2 and a half weeks old. All the puppies are around 4.5 pounds and eyes are opening. They are starting to walk/crawl and we will be starting some solid foods this week. We have decided to call our new puppy Lily. She is doing great with her house training and is very playful. Over all everything is going good.

We lost one puppy though. Our little mantle Merle boy. He passed a few nights ago. I was holding him and he was sleeping. Passed very peacefully, I didn't even realize he was gone at first. He stopped gaining weight and then refused the bottle, I was syringe feeding him but he just didn't come back around. I have lots of pics of him and I miss him.

I will continue updating through the blog as time goes on.

<![CDATA[Lily has arrived!!]]>Sun, 10 Feb 2013 23:20:16 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/02/lily-has-arrived.htmlYesterday we went and picked up Lily. She is very playful and Keana, our Pug, thinks she is her new baby :) We are doing the potty training thing now and so far not to bad. It is nasty outside though, snowing and blowing snow so she is not liking the whole going outside thing. So far all the dogs like her, even Isis is playing with her when she takes breaks from her babies. Ozzy was scared of her at first lol and only played with her if we were outside until this evening, now he is loving on her too. I will post a pic of her soon.

The puppies will be one week old tomorrow and I will be posting new pics either tonight or tomorrow. They have gotten huge. All the pups are doing great. We are still bottle feeding one and he is still not very strong but hanging in there. They had their dew claws removed at 3 days old and that went well. The vet really liked the colorful litter. I will also be posting the updated weights of all the puppies.

I received the registration papers for the puppies yesterday. So no one will have to wait to get the puppy they choose registered.

<![CDATA[Puppies are here!!]]>Tue, 05 Feb 2013 21:58:15 GMThttp://emsdanehaven.weebly.com/1/post/2013/02/puppies-are-here.htmlIsis had a litter of 9 puppies yesterday. The first pup arrived at 3:45 a.m. and the last at 5:23 p.m. She had 2 Harlequin boys, 2 Merle boys, 1 Fawn boy, 1 fawn female, 1 black boy and 1 black female. One of the Merle males is not eating very well so I am supplementing him with a special puppy formula. I brought him to the vet but they were unable to find anything medically wrong with him. I have been getting colostrum from Isis and bottle feeding this to the puppy as well. He is already much stronger. I did not post a picture of the female Harlequin because she was sold to a friend of mine. The mantle Merle has a interesting coat color and I am pretty sure he is just a Merle but he has a tinge of reddish/tan fur on him in a few places. You can only tell if you look at him closely which I have been doing more than the other puppies since he is being bottle fed. Over all the puppies are healthy, eating well, and mom is doing a great job. I just registered the litter with the AKC today and so everyone will receive a registration packet when they pick up the puppy they chose. Well I have to go wash more blankets and do another feeding. I will post any updates on mom and puppies on this blog when ever I get time. I will also be posting new pics of the puppies on the available puppies page once a week so everyone can see how the puppy they picked is growing. :)

Just so everyone knows, Fawn puppies are born dark, they will lighten up over the next couple weeks.
